Building Within

Resilience

... a nation is only as strong as the individuals and communities that make it up.

At the Tufenkian Foundation, we believe that a nation is only as strong as the individuals and communities that make it up.

Building genuine, lasting resilience — the kind that withstands hardship, adapts to change, and empowers people to shape their own futures — is at the heart of everything we do, and it is the surest foundation for Armenia’s long-term success.

Our resettlement and development pathways form a core part of this resilience-building mission. By helping displaced families find stable footing and invest in sustainable livelihoods, and by strengthening the infrastructure and economic fabric of rural communities, we address resilience at both the individual and collective level. But we have always understood that true resilience goes deeper than housing and infrastructure — it begins with people, and it begins early.

That is why our work extends through a network of dedicated partner organizations, each addressing a distinct but interconnected dimension of resilience across Armenian society.

Through our beneficiary organization, the Family and Community NGO, we operate centres across Armenia dedicated to the country’s most vulnerable children and young people. These centres are more than safe spaces — they are places of growth, learning, and belonging, where young Armenians are given the tools, support, and encouragement they need to overcome adversity and build meaningful lives.

We also stand alongside the Women’s Support Center (WSC), an organization at the forefront of preventing and responding to domestic violence in Armenia. The WSC is dedicated to protecting survivors, supporting their rehabilitation and empowerment, and driving the deeper systemic change needed — legal, educational, and social — to break the culture of silence that too often surrounds domestic abuse. Because resilient communities cannot be built while half of their members remain vulnerable within their own homes.

Our commitment to resilience extends to Armenia’s environment and natural resources as well. Through our support of the Mining Legislation Reform Institute (MLRI), an Armenian NGO championing responsible mining practices and legislative reform, we invest in the kind of governance and environmental stewardship that protects communities from exploitation and ensures that Armenia’s natural wealth serves its people — sustainably and equitably — for generations to come.

Resilience, for us, is not a programme — it is a promise. A promise to stand alongside Armenian communities not just in moments of crisis, but through every step of the journey toward a stronger, more self-sufficient, and more hopeful Armenia.
