Rebuilding lives

Resettlement

We approach resettlement holistically — not merely building houses, but as a comprehensive effort to build and strengthen sustainable communities

Resettlement is a key priority area for the Tufenkian Foundation. We approach resettlement holistically — not merely building houses, but as a comprehensive effort to build and strengthen sustainable communities. It is one of the most powerful socio-economic tools at our disposal, because of its unique ability to address the needs of both existing communities, and forcibly displaced people from Artsakh.

Our resettlement story begins in Artsakh. From 2003 until 2022, we supported the development of entire neighborhoods, in and around the Kashatagh region, complete with essential infrastructure and necessary amenities. We implemented over 45 resettlement projects working across domestic construction and renovation, and broader community development efforts. We were especially involved in the development of agricultural livelihoods, greenhouse construction and maintenance, animal husbandry facilities, and other income-generating opportunities for rural people.

Today, our story continues in Syunik and other regions of Armenia. Our foremost priority is supporting forcibly displaced families from Artsakh as they secure stable housing and rebuild their lives.

“Yeg Svarants” (Come to Svarants) is our pilot resettlement project in Syunik, and is a key component of our broader ‘Syunik Revitalization Program’, which is designed to support displaced families from Artsakh while strengthening new and existing communities.
