Svarants Administration Building Renovation & Community Development Project

Svarants Village · Syunik Region, Armenia

A Building at the Heart of Village Life

The Svarants Administration Building has long been the center of public life in Svarants — home to local governance, community services, and shared civic space. But decades of deferred maintenance have taken their toll. Crumbling ceilings, damaged flooring, deteriorating walls, and failing utilities have left the two-storey structure unable to serve the community that depends on it.

What We Are Building

The Tufenkian Foundation is leading the full renovation and transformation of the building into a modern, accessible community hub. The ground floor will be restored to full operational capacity, with repaired infrastructure, updated electrical systems, proper insulation, and improved natural lighting. At its heart, a multi-purpose community hall — retaining its original high ceilings and generous space — will become the vibrant center of village life, hosting assemblies, cultural events, youth programs, and community gatherings.

Serving Every Generation

The second floor will be reimagined to meet the needs of Svarants’ growing population. A dedicated children and youth space will provide a safe, welcoming environment for programs and activities. A fully equipped medical aid room will be restored to serve the village’s residents, including the growing number of families resettled from Artsakh — ensuring that basic healthcare support is accessible where it is needed most.

Building Together

This project is more than a renovation. It is an investment in the resilience and dignity of a community that has faced extraordinary pressures. Using green technologies and community-centered design, the Tufenkian Foundation is working alongside the people of Svarants to build a space that belongs to them — and that will serve them for generations to come.

Help bring this building back to life for the people of Svarants.
